What Real Madrid Soccer Players Did At EMU: Put On Pads And Played Football

August 01, 2014, 8:10 AM

Mlive's Justin P. Hicks describes one of the things Real Madrid players did in preparing for their sold-out soccer game Saturday at the University of Michigan stadium.

At Eastern Michigan University, where Real Madrid was working out, Hicks reports:

EMU Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Heather Lyke, said players from the Spanish club put on EMU helmets and shoulder pads and played football in “The Factory” at Rynearson Stadium. She added that "a great number of players" were taking part, but not Cristiano Ronaldo, above, the Portuguese star and reigning FIFA Player of the Year who is coming off an injured knee.

Sophomore Rachel Washburn, an EMU soccer player, told Hicks:

"They were so enthralled with football, actual football,” she said. “They loved it. They were getting in line and tackling each other and throwing the football. It was really cool.”
