Despite some confusion over the final tally, Southfield Mayor Brenda Lawrence finally declared victory in her bid to replace U.S. Rep. Gary Peters in the 14th Congressional District, the Detroit News reports.
"The numbers reflect a win, and I’m very excited about that,” Lawrence said.
The Detroit News, citing numbers from the Associated Press, reported that Lawrence had 26,500 votes to state Rep. Rudy Hobbs’ 24,007. Hansen Clarke was third with 22,869.
Last night, originally AP reported that Hobbs was ahead, but later updated those numbers to reflect a Lawrence victory.
