Attack Ads Could Help Push Spending in Governor's Race to $40 Million-Plus

Spending in the Michigan governor's race could top $40 million, the Detroit Free Press reports.


Paul Egan of the Freep writes: 

A handful of third parties are also buying ads in the governor’s race. Most notably, the Democratic Governors Association and the Republican Governors Association have together spent close to $10 million — with the Democratic spending in the lead — and both groups plan to spend more.

Altogether, spending on the governor’s race could top $40 million, with much of that coming in the form of attack ads from third parties, Rich Robinson, executive director of the Michigan Campaign Finance Network, said Tuesday.
