A New Chapter: Jayru Campbell Arraigned On Charges of Assault and Unarmed Robbery

September 13, 2014, 4:04 PM

Another unfortunate chapter in the life of Detroit Cass Tech football Jayru Campbell — who had just finished serving time for assaulting a school security officer -- unfolded Saturday in court.

The Detroit Free Press reports that Campbell, 17, was arraigned on charges of assaulting a 17-year-old who was apparently his girlfriend.

WXYZ reports that witnesses says Campbell was at Cass Tech when he grabbed his girlfriend's cell phone and began reading text messages. At some point, he became visibly angry and assaulted her. She did not require medical attention.

Specifically, Campbell, who was arrested Friday after the incident at Cass Tech,  was charged with unarmed robbery, assault with intent to do great bodily harm and misdemeanor domestic violence assault and battery, the Freep reported. He was arranged via video in 34th District Court in Romulus where Detroit arraignments are generally held on Saturdays.

Bail was set at  $350,000 cash, and Campbell was ordered not to have contact with the victim. The next court date is Sept. 25 at Frank Murphy Hall of Justice in Detroit.

The incident happened just hours after Campbell had been released from jail after serving time for body slamming a school security officer.
