Oops!

The city of Pontiac mistakenly razed a historic home that shouldn't have been knocked down, reports Dustin Blitchok of the Oakland Press.

The home at 268 N. Saginaw Street in the Fairgrove Historic District met up with the wrecking ball on Monday, and was one of 16 being demolished using the last of nearly $1 million in Michigan Blight Elimination Program funds awarded to the city last year, The Oakland Press reported.

Pontiac City Council President Pro Tem Mary Pietila noted that "the house is 35 feet from the sign,” pointing to the historic district marker near the pile of rubble, the paper says.

"The city dropped the ball," she says.

The home was condemned in 2010.
