Bankruptcy Judge Steven Rhodes Won't Stop Detroit Water Shut-Offs

U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Steven Rhodes, who had previously expressed concern about Detroit's massive water shut-offs, won't intervene and prevent the city from shutting off service. 

Robert Snell of the Detroit News reports that Rhodes on Monday said there is no right to free water and the city needs the revenue.

"There is no such right or law," Rhodes said.

"Chapter 9 strictly limits the courts' power in a bankruptcy case," U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Steven Rhodes said as he read a ruling from the bench this morning, according to the Free Press.
