Attorney Richard Bernstein Leads in Supreme Court Race, Poll Shows

October 10, 2014, 4:04 PM by  Allan Lengel

A poll shows Democratic-nominated candidate Richard Bernstein leading the pack in the race for  state Supreme Court Justice.

The poll, conducted by Target Insyght, showed Bernstein of the well-known Sam Bernstein Law Firm, leading with 33 percent, followed by Kent County Judge James Robert Redford,  a Republican nominee, with 16 percent, and  incumbent Justice Brian ZAHRA, a second GOP nominee, with 13 percent.

The top two finishers will earn eight-year terms on the bench.

"Justice Brian Zahra could take third place in the race," said Target Insyght founder Ed SARPOLUS.

He said the last justice with the incumbency designation on the ballot to lose was former Chief Justice Clifford Taylor, who Democrats alleged fell asleep on the bench, in 2008, he said.
