There are ridicule-inviting names, such as those that make elementary pupils giggle at unfortunate classmates, and then there are really bad names that can drive customers away from a business.

A patriotic look atop the diner's Facebook page hasn't helped.

So it's no shock that Isis Coney Island in Taylor will be renamed, as Sandra McNeill reports for WWJ:

The owner of the downriver diner is getting tired of all the comments about its moniker matching the acronym for the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). . . .

Liz Nikollaj says that when she bought the Taylor restaurant last June, it already had the name Isis, after the ancient Egyptian goddess. “It’s an Egyptian theme inside the restaurant. . . . Everything here is Egyptian.”

The restaurant’s name went over just fine, until recently.

Though no one accuses her of overseas terrorist ties, the owner increasingly hears "nasty things . . . inappropriate stuff,” she tells the radio reporter, adding that a new name will be picked when she can afford a new sign and relabeling of menus, laminated tables and other changes.
