Illegal dumping is pervasive in Detroit, and neighbors in the Brightmoor community are trying to fight back by confronting dumpers and taking photos of them.

WDIV's Shawn Ley reports that the latest incident was on Wednesday when a  Brightmoor resident snapped photos of two men illegally dumping garbage in the neighborhood.

WDIV reports that Andrew Wilson was the one chasing them, snapping photos of them, their makeshift truck bed trailer and their license plates. Police have the information.

"He actually ran into me. I had to dive out of the way but he still hit me," Wilson told WDIV.

Wilson thinks the city doesn't care enough to do anything.

There's signs that the city wants to aggressively crackdown on these dumpers.

WDIV reports that the city will finalize plans Friday morning to install security cameras on streets in areas that are experiencing serious problems with illegal dumping.

Gwen Shivers tells WDIV that neighbors are putting their safety on the line.

"If we want to take back our neighborhood, we have to do what we have to do to live in a safe environment," said Shivers. "We literally come out here with cameras and say, 'Hey, we are watching you,' and it doesn't make a difference."
