Gallery: Dems Party at MGM Casino

November 05, 2014, 9:07 AM by  Allan Lengel

Democrats gathered Tuesday night at a ballroom at the MGM Casino, hoping to beat all odds and be victorious in every race.

That didn't quite work out that way. For one, the governor's race slipped away.

But Democrat Rep. Gary Peters glided to victory in the race for U.S. Senate, a bright spot for the Dems, who didn't do so well over all in other parts of the country. The Senate majority will now be Republican.

Debbie Dingell won in her Congressional race, as expected. Ditto for Rep. John Conyers and Southfield Mayor Brenda Lawrence.

Overall, the atmosphere was pretty festive.

Southfield Mayor Brenda Lawrence had reason to celebrate. She won election to Congress.

Sen. Debbie Stabenow fired up the crowd.

There was a good mix of all types of people and religions.

Detroit Council member Mary Sheffield, Marcella Richardson and Davonne Darby came to celebrate.
