Sometimes there's an absurdity to following the law to a tee.

Unless there's some fact missing in this report, this incident borders on the ridiculous.

Fox 2 reports that Tyrone James Jr., 29, who is on parole, helped save his dad's life during a robbery on Monday, got shot in thigh and then was arrested.

Fox 2 reports that James was arrested for parole violation because his dad has a gun, and he's not supposed to be near guns. His father has a gun permit.

"He took a bullet for me," the father, Tyrone James, told Fox 2. "If he wouldn't have been there, I would be dead now."

The son served seven years in prison for manslaughter and felony firearm and is on parole until January, 2016.

The incident happened Monday night.

The father tells Fox 2 that he was working on his wife's car outside his Detroit house on Liddesdale Street at night with his son, who had come by to help.

While working on the car, two men approached.

"He runs up and he puts a gun straight in my face, and there was another guy on the other side of the car," the father told Fox 2.

James, who had his gun, handed the men his wallet and his son tackled one.  During that struggle, the son was shot in the thigh, Fox 2 reports.

The father then pulled out his gun and one man ran off. The father and son held the other man until police came.

Fox 2 reports that the son was treated at a hospital and released.

Then on Tuesday, Michigan Department of Corrections officers picked him up, Fox 2 reports.
