Local Woman Hopes Surgery Can Make Her Smile for First Time in 41 Years

November 20, 2014, 7:03 AM

Ronna Baker of White Lake Township hasn't smiled in 41 years.

Born with rare conditions called Moebius syndrome and Poland syndrome, Baker is unable to smile, show expression or speak clearly, WDIV's Dr. Frank George reports.

The family has now found a surgeon in Boston who can do facial re-animation surgery. She's lost 100 pounds for the surgery.

But the surgery is expensive and the family is raising funds to make Baker's dream come true.

"As I was growing up I always felt like an outsider; no one around me looked the same as I did, not even my sisters," she says. "I watched as my sisters made friends easily when I could not. I found myself being stared at, avoided and/or laughed at even through adulthood."
