Xmas Eve Greeting from Debbie Dingell: 'Cherish Peace and Kindness'

December 24, 2014, 7:08 PM

Congresswoman-Elect Debbie Dingell posts this message on social media late Wednesday afternoon while visiting her husband, 88-year-old Rep. John Dingell, hospitalized in Washington, D.C., since Dec. 12 with a hairline hip fracture. She was elected last month to fill his seat in January.

As we approach Christmas Eve, we wish to you much love and laughter with your friends and families. We will spend this holiday at George Washington [University] Hospital, very grateful to the doctors, nurses and staff who work so hard to take care of those in need.

John is making tremendous progress, doing three intense hours of physical therapy a day. We are looking at probably another week in the hospital. He is trying to manage his strong desire for escape and longing for home. But we have lots of good Michigan roots in the doctors and others taking care of him.

We have so many things to be thankful for and sometimes when life gives you a detour, there is a reason.

So from us to you: May your holiday be filled with the true miracles and meaning of this beautiful time. The true spirit of this season is one of wonder and warmth. May any holiday stress you feel fade away.

This for us has been a time of renewal to cherish peace and kindness. We look at each day with new perspectives: Mornings brings HOPE, Afternoon brings FAITH. Evening brings LOVE, Night brings REST. For our friends, we wish you all of this.

Wishing you lots of love, joy and happiness this Christmas Eve. Your prayers have meant much and you will be in ours.
