Max Scherzer Thanks Tigers and Fans in Detroit Newspaper Ads

January 25, 2015, 3:38 PM

Max Scherzer didn't have to do it.

Sure, some fans think he was greedy and disloyal to pass up a $144 million offer from the Tigers. Instead, he signed with the Washington Nationals for $210 million.

Whatever the case, Scherzer does a classy thing.

A full-page ad Sunday in the Detroit Free Press, plus the banner ad above at its website and that of The News, thank the Detroit team and its fans. It's signed by Scherzer and his wife Erica.

The pitcher's photo in the ad is by Kirthmon Dozier of the Freep.
