Balloons Released in Sky for Paige Stalker, Who Would Have Turned 17

January 29, 2015, 7:17 AM

While police investigators continue to work on the case, people gathered Wednesday night for a vigil in Grosse Pointe to honor Paige Stalker on her birthday, Fox 2 reports. She would have been 17.

Fox 2 reports that people released pink and green balloons into the sky with messages attached at the corner of corner of St. Clair and Kercheval.

"I've never seen anything so beautiful," Jennifer Steinheble, who organized the vigil, told Fox 2 "It was magical for me."

The vigil was also attended by family members of Christina Samuel, 22, a Detroiter who was killed on Christmas day, three days after Paige Stalker. Samuel, who had just earned her undergrad degree and was planning to attend grad school in January,  was sitting in a car with a friend when a couple gunmen walked up and opened fire. Her friend, who was wounded, appeared to be the target.

The families of Stalker and Samuel have bonded since the shootings.
