A documentary on Kwame Kilpatrick gives a behind-the-curtain glimpse of the ex-mayor and his downfall. It will debut April 3 at the Charles Wright Museum, WXYZ reports.

Jim Kiertzner of WXYZ gives a preview of documentary that includes comments from Kilpatrick right after  his conviction in 2013 on public corruption charges.

"Shock. Confusion, " Kilpatrick says in the film. "Immediately thought about  my sons, my wife, and my mother," he said. "But I'm going ot trust God on this."

The film also has comments from Christine Beatty, his chief of staff who became his lover.

"I fell in love with my best friend and we crossed the line we shouldn't have crossed," Beatty says.

His mother, Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick says in the film about Kilpatrick's upcoming trial, that the family was seeking vindication.

Kilpatrick also talks about the next mayoral election, even before the campaign had begun, and said that the voters will be looking for a savior, and that savior won't be black.

Kiertzner reports that the film is a low-budget one made by "two low-key Detroiters, working in their Midtown Flat. Tim Smith is a former TV news producer, his son Tobias is a cameraman and editor. They're in was a connection Tim had with Congresswoman Kilpatrick."
