This is bound to be a popular app.
Tom Henderson of Crain's Detroit Business writes that a student startup has created an app that allows friends and family to keep an eye on you as you walk home late at night. It was the winner at the 32nd annual Michigan Business Challenge put on by the Zell Lurie Institute at the University of Michigan School of Business.
The group that created the app, Companion, was founded by five undergraduate students, Danny Freed, Jake Wayne, Lexie Ernst, Nathan Pilcowitz and Kathryn Reiner. They won a $25,000 prize, Henderson writes.
The app will also help public safety determine walking patterns and figure out where best to place officers, Crain's reports.
