DIY Detroit: House Where Trench Rescue Took Place Had Illegal Water Hookup

Illegal electrical hookups are common in Detroit, but illegal water?

The west-side home where fire fighters took hours to rescue a man from a collapsed trench had both illegal electrical and water hookups, reports WDIV-TV.

The worker was among three men hired to dig the hole and lay down a sewer pipe. They weren’t licensed, nor did they have a permit to do the work. They were literally in over their heads.

“We tried different things a couple times and it seemed like every time we tried something new we just ended up going backyards,” said Senior Detroit Firefighter Tim Abrams.
