25,000 Detroit Kids Educated in The Suburbs, Hurting Detroit Schools Financially

Detroit K-12 students have options to go outside the city for an education, and apparently many are doing so.

Jennifer Chambers of the Detroit News reports that 25,000 students in the city attend schools in the suburbs everyday. It not only leaves desks empty in the city, but lessens the amount of student aide the Detroit schools get.  Detroit's loss is other districts' gains when it comes to aid.

The News reports that more than 8,000 attend traditional districts in Oakland, Macomb and Wayne counties, while 17,000 are in suburban charters, state data from 2013-14 show.
