The mass water shutoff problem is spreading to Hamtramck.

The city Tuesday began cutting service to about 950 businesses and residences that received notices in early April, Amy Lange of Fox 2 reports.

Fox reports that customers who owe more than $250 dollars should have received a shutoff notice.

"We've had issues with some of our big corporate clients that you wouldn't expect to not pay their bills - but it happens," City Clerk August Gitschlag told Fox 2.

"We do not want to have to shut people's water off," said Mark Ragsdale of Hamtramck's public services staff. "Unfortunately the department is running on a $1.2-million deficit."
