Susan Murphy's nomadic wandering through Northwest Detroit is done.

"The day I have been waiting for . . . is finally here!," the persistent bookseller posts at her store's blog. "Celebrate with Pages Bookshop on Saturday."

She actually opened Tuesday at 19560 Grand River Ave., between Outer Drive and Evergreen in North Rosedale Park. Murphy leases the building from the Grandmont Rosedale Development Corp., a community nonprofit.

Susan Murphy, seated in her new space, wants " to share my passion for reading."

"I have been working on creating a beautiful, comfortable, space for community members to enjoy conversations about books and the stories within them," she posts.

Murphy, a former executive and educator, originally operated on Livernois Avenue in 2013-14 and earlier this year from a pop-up space in the Always Brewing coffeshop in the Grandmont-Rosedale.

"I want to share my passion for reading as a way to connect, both to stories and to each other," she says at the shop's website. "Even though reading seems to be a solitary activity, it can lead to great conversations between people."

Now that she's settled in after more than a month of minor construction, repairs and painting walls, here's what the shopkeeper has arranged for opening festivities Saturday, which not coincidentally is national Independent Bookstore Day:

  • Free mimosas, 10–11 a.m.
  • Renee Prewitt reads to children and sign copies of "Malcolm Mows the Lawn," 11 a.m.
  • Lynn Crawford reads from her recent novel, "Simply Separate People," takes questions and signs copies, 1 p.m.
  • Michael Lauchlan read from his new book of poems, "Trumbull Ave.," 3 p.m.
  • Hourly raffles, introduction to Blind Date with a Book and a literary quiz with prizes, between readings.
  • Food, beverages and music by Luther “Badman” Keith’s blues band, 7-9 p.m.

The photos above originally were posted this week at CarrieD Away, "a blog about life in Detroit. We appreciate being allowed to share them.
