Macomb Circuit Judge James Biernat Jr.

Dennis Desvon Scott is among Detroit's hard-core defenders.

A Macomb County Circuit judge and the court spectator defend Detroit squabbled about the source of local heroin, Jameson Cook of The Macomb Daily reports:

The exchange between Macomb Circuit Court Judge James Biernat Jr. and Dennis Desvon Scott, 25, of Roseville, occurred Thursday after the judge questioned a 20-year-old male defendant, who pleaded guilty, about his source for selling heroin in Chesterfield Township. The man, who used and sold in small quantities, said he bought heroin at a house in Detroit and resold some of it to pay for his use.

Scott, seated in the gallery of Biernat’s courtroom to view a different case, was apparently upset about blaming a Macomb County problem on “Detroit.” He stood up, blurted out a dismissive comment and walked out of the courtroom. He was brought back into the courtroom by a sheriff’s deputy.

“I was offended,” Scott told the judge. “What does that have to do with Detroit?”

Scott said he moved from Detroit to Chesterfield Township at age 11, the paper says. He challenged the judge's questioning and said the defendant gave a wrong impression of the current situation. He said drugs are being sold in Chesterfield Township.

Biernat told Scott that he questions all drug defendants about their source and “90 percent-plus” say they bought it in Detroit, the paper reported.

Scott responded: “They’re just saying that to get out of trouble.”

Biernat said, “Just come a spend a day here and watch.”

Outside the courtroom after the exchange, Scott said he's not involved with drugs, but knows people who are, and he said drugs are being sold all over Macomb County.
