Duggan: Finley Was Wrong In Saying I Started Lifetime Health Benefit For Wayne County
Duggan writes: I'm not sure how Nolan Finley reached his conclusion that I'm responsible for creating Wayne County's lifetime health care benefit ("Trace Wayne County's cronyism back to Duggan days," July 12). The benefit was created by an action of the Wayne County Commission that I never supported. And when I left county government, I turned down that health care benefit, a fact that Finley omitted.
Finley's claim that Mary Zuckerman and other McNamara officials are receiving pensions for life is equally inaccurate. The defined benefit plan providing pension checks for life was eliminated by the Lucas administration in 1984 and was never offered to Mary Zuckerman or any other member of the administration in McNamara's 16 years in office.
Finley's column is here.
