"The creative forces and people fueling Detroit's future" are the focus of a downtown discussion Thursday evening at the Carr Center, hosted by WDET and its National Public Radio parent network.
Moderators include Michel Martin, a broadcaster who crosses the country for a series of ticketed events such as this. In Dallas recently, she and three panelists talked about the culture and violence of football.
In Detroit, she and two others -- Travis Wright, host and executive producer of WDET's Culture City, and architecture-urban planning Professor June Thomas of the University of Michigan -- will invite these eight people talk about "challenges and triumphs they’ve encountered while striving to redefine life in Detroit.," as an event promo puts it:
- jessica Care moore, poet and executive producer of Black Women Rock!
- Filmmaker Rola Nashef ("Detroit Unleaded")
- Fashion designer Charketa Glover
- Theater director Samantha White of Shakespeare in Detroit
- Aaron Cozadd, executive chef for Union Joints restaurant group (Clarkston Union, Vinsetta Garage)
- Artist and urban farmer Kate Daughdrill
- Bridget Russo, marketing director at Shinola
- Techno music creator Juan Atkins
The event, sponsored by the Kresge Foundation, also features a gospel choir and a reception with wine and chocolate.
