"It was egregious indeed" for the Freep to post this, says a Facebook post on behalf of Johnson (left).

Politics is often rife with irony.

Take state Sen. Bert Johnson, who was none too happy when the Detroit Free Press recently ran a photo of him next to fellow senator Virgil Smith, who was in trouble with the law after shooting off a rifle at his ex-wife's Mercedes.

Deadline Detroit reported that a member of Johnson's communications staff posted this on the senator's Facebook page:

Today, the Freep ran a photo of State Sen. Bert Johnson flanking State Sen. Virgil Smith in its online editions, before a representative from our office demanded the picture be removed. Eventually, the Freep cropped Sen. Johnson out of the photo

While the Freep will say this is a mistake, it was egregious indeed. Certainly in this perilous time, we're hoping that things work for the good. However, State Sen. Johnson has worked diligently to overcome his own personal obstacles -- only to have a media outlet disrespect his persona and image.

Well, now Mara MacDonald of WDIV reports that a bench warrant has been issued for the Johnson's arrest after he failed to show up in an Illinois courtroom where Chicago-based Paladian Political Consulting, which did work for Johnson, sued him over a $22,000 debt and won.

Johnson said he had no idea he was supposed to be in an Illinois courtroom, that he had been held in contempt of court, or that a bench warrant and $25,000 bond had been issued, WDIV reports.

WDIV reports that the attorney for Paladian said Johnson was served by Wayne County deputies and that all correspondence has been done via registered mail.
