The Most Poetic Video of A Building Fire Ever Made

July 18, 2012, 4:46 PM by  Bill McGraw

A lot has been published and broadcast about the fire at the old Sanders plant in Highland Park Saturday.

But nothing approaches the video made by Destination Detroit Media for capturing the candy-making history and the emotion of the building, which had been abandoned for several years.

In one minute and thirty eight seconds, DDM highlights the work on the structure of Corrado Parducci, an architectural sculptor who was born in Italy but came to Detroit in the World War I-era boom years and worked on numerous buildings, including the Fisher, Guardian, federal and Masonic Temple.

Destination Detroit Media was created by photographers Jack P. Johnson and Jennifer Baross, who, in their words, wanted  "to showcase the City of Detroit as a place of active community, vibrant festivals, and, well, a great place to be." See their web site here.
