The Pontchartrain May Add A Second Tower

June 29, 2015, 7:57 AM

Could the Crowne Plaza Pontchartrain Detroit be getting a second tower that would add hundreds of rooms?

Sherri Welch of Crain's Detroit Business reports that the hotel is considering that move that would cost up to $35 million and increase the number of rooms from 367 to 800 or more. Crain's reports that such an expansion would make the hotel the state's second largest, behind the riverfront Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center.

Welch reports that it could help Detroit when it competes for conferences.

"One of our challenges is we don't have as many hotel rooms that are an easy walk to the convention center like many of our competitors do," Michael O'Callaghan, executive vice president and COO of the convention bureau, told Crain's.
