It appears the SS Columbia, one of the beloved Boblo boats, is in for a second shot at life.

Dan Austin, who often writes about historical Detroit for the Detroit Free Press, writes that he recently took a trip to Toledo to "visit an old friend of mine from Detroit," namely the SS Columbia.

He writes that the steamer has been at the Toledo Shipyard in Ohio since September, ever since leaving its Detroit home, where crews repaired its 113-year-old hull.

Austin writes:

The steamer is being restored by the nonprofit Columbia Project, which has spent years working on a plan to return the boat to service. A group from New York has stepped in to do what metro Detroiters did not: Save the Columbia. But the old Boblo boat won't be plying the Detroit River, it will be hitting the waves in the Hudson River Valley.
