Video: Em and Colbert on Local Public Access TV Just Sounds Too Good to Be True

. . . We're unsure which cliché to use: Truth is stranger than fiction? Can't make up this stuff?

Here's how Ross Miller of The Verge introduces the unlikely clip (below) posted Wednesday:

I'm going to be honest with you: I don't know what to say here. I almost didn't believe this video was real.

Well, it is. Through some not-yet-explained combo of circumstances, Stephen Colbert and Eminem sit in a Southeast Michigan cable system studio for a "Only in Monroe" public access show appearance.

WDIV social media producer Ken Haddad posts:

The 41-minute show featured Stephen Colbert breaking down the best of Monroe, including Yelp! reviews, industry news and more.

He then sat down with Eminem for an awesomely awkward interview which included singing Bob Seger songs and talking about retirement.

Speaking of retirement, Em deadpans: "Carpentry sounds like it could be good."

The Verge's writer calls it "a strange blend of public access style and Colbert witticism."

There are even short pauses after jokes for an audience that isn't in studio. This isn't some haphazard effort; the jokes and research are clearly there, and much of the joy in watching this lies in the earnestness of Colbert.

See for yourself:
