U-M Student Dies in Ann Arbor Roof Fall

A  21-year-old University of Michigan student died in a late-night accident.

The victim fell through the glass roof of the Nickels Arcade at  S. State Street at North University Avenue in downtown Ann Arbor early Friday around 2:20 a.m., Tom Greenwood of the Detroit News reports. Nickels Arcade is a covered shopping alley.

“The man had climbed up the fire escape to the top of the roughly three-story structure around 2:20 a.m. with a female acquaintance,” said police Detective Lt. Robert Pfannes in a press release. “The man, who was from Saugatuck, was taken to an area hospital, where he died of injuries suffered in the fall.”

The woman was unhurt.
