Greektown could use a little boost.

Now comes this: Sylvia Rector of the Detroit Free Press writes  that musicians, street artists and even fire-eaters will replace cars on newly remodeled Monroe Street in Detroit’s Greektown on weekend nights this summer.

Rector writes:

Spearheaded by the Greektown Preservation Society, the Greektown at Sundown program will close Monroe to cars from Beaubien to St. Antoine starting at 5 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, from now through Sept. 6 and on Labor Day (Sept. 7). The traffic ban ends at 2 a.m., and cars will be allowed at all other times.

Greektown had relatively unpublicized closures of the street the last two weekends, as a  “soft opening," the Freep reports.
