WXYZ investigative reporter Ross Jones, an affable person who earned a reputation as a thorough and hard-hitting reporter, is leaving the station.

He's joining the Scripps Washington Bureau as an investigative correspondent. Scripps is the parent company of WXYZ, and in his new role, Jones will provide investigative reporting to all Scripps properties, including 33 television stations across the country.

“Ross is one of the most relentless and resourceful investigators in the country. His work makes a difference and is a tremendous boost for Scripps media organizations across the country,” says News Director Dave Manney.

Jones’s reported on corruption and waste in Wayne County and was the first to report on secret funds used by elected officials throughout Michigan, including former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick’s “Civic Fund.”

The station's story also stated that Jones exposed State Supreme Court Justice Diane Hathaway’s mortgage fraud that led to a grand jury investigation and ultimately, her criminal conviction.
