Our city earns a new West Coast cheerleader who posts details about his "great trip to Detroit last week."

Several locals react with awed admiration at a list of 24 legendary spots and must-see newcomers that he admired with a Royal Oak friend and up to four others at times, he tells us in a reply on his Reddit thread.

"I've lived here almost 40 years and haven't done half the things on that list," one reader posts there. "I'm impressed. Glad you enjoyed yourself. Tell your friends!"

Another comments: "You built yourself an enviable itinerary. Well-done." And a Royal Oak resident quips: "Saving this list so next time someone comes to visit they'll think I did a lot of planning."

The visitor, identified only as "rillick," ticks off "some of the things we did" from brunch Thursday through lunch Sunday. They include the venerable (DIA and Heidelberg Project), the newly emerged (Selden Standard and Dime Store) and the rejuvenated (RiverWalk and Green Dot Stables).

There even was time for yoga downtown and a riverside stroll.

"Coming from LA, it was my first visit," says the Tuesday morning post, which has more than 100 comments and nearly 200 "upvotes."

It was one of the most fun trips I’ve had. Thanks for everything, including the amazing weather! . . .

We stayed at an AirBnB in Midtown about a block from Selden Standard. Getting around was super-easy.

Beverages at this enduring Cass Corridor hangout were part of the tour.

What's behind the trip emerges in a reply to someone who wonders:

Based on what I read, things seem to be changing a lot so I thought it would be a good time to check it out and get a feel.

I also have a friend there that I haven't seen in a couple years. He used to live in LA but moved back to Detroit area, which is where he's from originally.

The itinerary is below (without its day-by-day divisions) so you can see how many places you've hit -- or should.

After that list, the effusive post has a dozen bullet shouts for "my favorites." Samples:

  • Featherbowling at Cadieux: Easily one of the top 3 moments of the whole trip; just awesome. . . .  I’d love to come back here later at night when it’s more crowded.
  • Dinner at Selden: Great restaurant; up there with the best restaurants in LA and NY that I’ve been to.
  • Eastern Market After Dark: Probably the best outdoor night event I’ve been to; so much fun.
  • Cafe D’Mongo’s: Perfect place to go on a Friday night. The people watching here was crazy. We sat at the bar and it was packed.

As a bonus value, Redditors get to swing at a popular piñata the Californian bypassed:

  • But you didn't go to Slows, which, according to the New Detroit charter, is required. Otherwise your entire Detroit experience is invalidated. -- Aaron K. Foley
  • Slows is overrated. Who comes to Detroit for BBQ anyways? -- "dno_bot"
  • Who comes to Detroit for a 45 minute-2 hour wait for ok BBQ? -- "LordOfTime," Ferndale

Here's what the energetic Angeleno accomplished over four whirlwind days:

  • Brunch at Brooklyn Street Local
  • Drinks at The Old Miami
  • Featherbowling at Cadieux Cafe
  • Dinner and lunch at Selden Standard
  • Eastern Market After Dark
  • Drinks at Antietam
  • Citizen Yoga (downtown)
  • The DIA
  • RiverWalk
  • Dinner at Rock City Eatery
  • Wasserman Projects gallery opening
  • Drinks at Cafe D’Mongo’s
  • Dessert at Astoria Pastry Shop (Greektown)
  • Eastern Market
  • Lunch at Supino
  • Heidelberg Project
  • DIY Street Fair in Ferndale
  • Drinks at Tom’s Tavern
  • Dinner at Wright & Co.
  • House Music/DJs at The Whisky Parlor
  • Breakfast at Dime Store
  • Campus Martius
  • Lunch at Green Dot Stables

Makes you thirsty, hungry and footsore just to read, doesn't it?
