2 Detroit Area Lawmakers Take Aim at School Condom Demonstrations

September 30, 2015, 1:59 PM

Language in a Michigan House bill introduced Sept. 17.

Get a load of what some legislators are up to now in Lansing, courtesy of Metro Times columnist Jack Lessenberry:

Eleven of them introduced a truly important proposed new law. House Bill 4883 would make it illegal to put a condom on a banana, or even a zucchini, in sex education classes in any Michigan public school.

The kids are supposed to be told to practice abstinence instead. No, you can't make this stuff up.

Bet you can guess which political party all 11 sponsors of this month's bill happen to be members of. [Spoiler: None are Democrats.]

They include two Metro Detroit representatives -- Ken Goike of Ray Township in Macomb and Jim Runestad of White Lake.

Another Southeast Michigan lawmaker also is on board -- Hank Vaupel of Livingston County.

But wait -- the ever-helpful Metro Times contributor ends his brief item on a bright note:

The bill does not make it illegal to show that classic movie, "American Pie."
