Under Armour Plans Sports Apparel Store in Detroit

Here's more good news for Detroit.

Under Armour, the global sports apparel maker, wants to open its first store in the city, Dustin Walsh of Crain's Detroit Business reports.

At a Detroit Homecoming dinner Wednesday night, CEO Kevin Plank said his site evaluation is in the city seeking space.

“There are places that you have to be, places you should be and places you want to be,” Plank said on stage at the Detroit Opera House in an conversation with Quicken Loans founder Dan Gilbert. “What you’re building here . . . we want to be a part of” it.

During that session, Gilbert said, according to the Free Press:

 “If you’re looking at a spreadsheet, you wouldn’t normally say, ‘A city is part of this story.’ But a city does become, in a way, the soul of a company.”

Under Armour's biggest rival, Nike, plans to open at 1261 Woodward Ave. downtown, it was revealed last week.

Detroit Homecoming, a second annual event convened by Crain's, attracted about 170 for residents of the region, It runs through Friday.
