Canton's Allison Schmitt Wins Silver Medal in London

Canton's Allison Schmitt felt that foe gaining on her after five or six laps Sunday, locked in a battle with France's Camille Muffat in a thrilling women's 400-meter Olympic freestyle final at the Aquatic Center, writes John Niyo of the Detroit News.

 Great Britain's Rebecca Adlington, the defending Olympic champ in the event, was giving chase.

Schmitt  felt a little divine intervention, one she credited after the race for guiding her home to a silver medal, her first individual podium finish at the Olympics and her second medal in as many nights of competition here in London.
