November 23, 2015, 3:43 PM

At 91, most folks hope to die from natural cause.

Paul Monchnik wasn't that fortunate.

Nima Shaffe of WXYZ reports that Monchnik's body was discovered after after a house fire at his northwest Detroit home in the 20500 block of Bentler Court around 3 a.m. Monday. His death has been ruled a homicide.

WXYZ reports that a suspect broke into the home early Monday morning, killed the man, purchased a gas canister at a nearby station, returned to the home and then lit the man's body on fire.

The station reports that a gas station surveillance camera captured a picture of the suspect and his vehicle, a Chevy Venture van with license plate CNU 1721.

A family member tells the station that Paul Monchnik is a retired television repairman with several grandchildren.

"He lived by himself; he was nearly deaf, so he lived in his own little world and got along in his own little world very comfortably," son Scott Monchnik, 56, who learned Monday morning of his father's brutal death, tells the Detroit Free Press.
