Gov. Rick Snyder, who could shed light on the Flint disaster for Congress, declines an invitation to testify Wednesday to committee of Democrats.

“He declined to testify on Wednesday, as he will be presenting his fiscal year 2017 budget recommendation in Lansing,” spokeswoman Anna Heaton says, according to Melissa Nann Burke of The Detroit News.

Wednesday’s budget presentation had been planned for at least a month, the paper notes. The U.S. House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee sent a letter inviting Snyder last week.

Rep. Dan Kildee of Flint Township, a committee member, says: “Governor Snyder's refusal to show up and testify is deeply disappointing.”

A House Oversight Committee hearing last Wednesday didn’t include some key people like Snyder and former Flint Emergency Manager Darnell Earley.
