Gay Group Doesn't Love Amway's Anti-Marriage Enthusiasm, But Won't Joint Boycott
There's a reason one of Michigan largest gay rights group won't join in the boycott of Amway after the president donated $500,000 to an anti-gay marriage group: They just don't work.
At least that's what Greg Varnum, spokesman for Equality Michigan, the only statewide anti-violence and advocacy organization for the Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community, told MLive.
“Boycotts have a poor track record,” Varnum said. “Often, they end up hurting the wrong people – those on the lowest rung (of the ladder) rather than the leaders at the top.”
