Video: UM Frat Bro's 'Reprehensible' Rant Against Uber Driver Passes 680,000 Views

March 28, 2016, 2:57 PM

Uber continues to grab headlines.

This time it involves a YouTube video by one of its drivers, Artur Zawada, that shows University of Michigan fraternity member Jake Croman ranting against the Uber operator in Ann Arbr. Croman, who is Jewish, says the driver's angi-Semitic remarks triggered the outburst, according to a Free Press report by David Jesse.

The video, viewed more than 682,000 times since March 23, shows Croman saying:

You’re canceling us again why? For what?

They don’t give a shit about you. They don’t give two fucks. There’s 50 of you, and there is one of me here. Who spends the most money, you little fuck?

Yeah, fuck you, Artur, you little faggot fuck. You wanna kick me off? Kick me off, you little piece of shit. You’re an Uber driver. Go fucking drive, you little fuck. Minimum wage faggot. Go fuck yourself.

You’re working all day? Guess what? I’m going to sit on my ass and watch TV. Fuck you.

The university and Croman's fraternity are looking into the matter, the Freep says.

"We find the actions depicted in this video to be reprehensible and completely inconsistent with our community’s closely held values," U-M spokesman Rick Fitzgerald said, according to the Freep. "We expect more from our students. Regardless of the circumstances, no one deserves to be treated that way. This matter has been reported to Ann Arbor Police. We are awaiting the police report as we consider our next steps.

Zawasa says he's had problems with the rider before, and posts this under the video:

Ladies and gentlemen :)).... This is 4th time that I have been harassed by this rider and his friends.  Nov.  Dec.  and twice in March.  I told him on 3rd occasion that I requested Uber to banned him but he is/was using friends accounts.  Told him and his friends that I will not take them and that he/they need to get out of my car..... For that I was falsely accused,  called names etc.

4th time... Rider knew from Uber application who is the driver. He had option to cancel to avoid any issues but he/they  proceeded to abuse,  harrase,  belittle and provoke like kindergarten thugs.

Through a family spokeswoman, Croman says Zawada sparked the rant, according to the Freep.

"This video shows one side of an argument I had with an Uber driver two weeks ago after he refused to pick me up on the basis of my religion. What you don’t see in the video is that the driver had made a number of offensive anti-Semitic remarks that provoked my response. I am not proud of my reaction to his discrimination and I regret my choice of words. Shortly after the verbal altercation, I filed a complaint with the Ann Arbor police department and they are now dealing with the issue.”
