Walsh: State DNR Boss Eager To Get Started Improving Belle Isle

Though Belle Isle's future ownership and funding continue to be debated among community activists and the Detroit City Council, Gov. Rick Snyder's office is trying to quietly negotiate terms of a support and operating plan before taking it public, according to Free Press columnist Tom Walsh.
Tom Creagh, Newly appointed director of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, can't wait to get started.
"A huge priority is Belle Isle and the Detroit riverfront," Creagh told Walsh in a telephone interview Tuesday. "My new budget season starts Oct. 1," he said. "I hope we can get going right away on this.
