Construction workers have been working away at the 22,000-square-foot site of the new Detroit Nike store set to open on May 26 at 1261 Woodward Avenue in downtown Detroit.

The store is part of the comeback along Woodward Avenue in downtown Detroit that was lined with vacant, rundown stores for decades.

The Nike store will join other fairly recent newcomers on the strip including two Moosejaw stores and John Varvatos, an upscale clothing shop.

Heter Myers, a Nike spokesman, tells Deadline Detroit, via email, that the store will join six other Nike "Community Stores" in the U.S.  "that are part of Nike’s efforts to create meaningful social change and to invest in the communities where they are located. From local hiring initiatives and backyard volunteer efforts, to hyperlocal store design elements, each store and the people that work in it are a reflection of their community."
