Tigers big win ends panic, World Series still possible
It's been a rough week or so for the Tigers. This was a team destined for 120 wins and a World Series championship awarded by acclimation, but they dropped consecutive series to Texas, Seattle, and New York. It was time to panic.
The season was all but over. Fire Dombrowski and Leyland. Trade Cabrera, Fielder, and Verlander for prospects. Build for the future.
Wait, no. The Tigers shouldn't do that just yet because they crushed the Kansas City Royals 9-3 last night at Comerica Park. Rick Porcello pitched well (8 IP, 3 ER, 7 H, 0 BB) and Austin Jackson went 4-5 with 2 RBIs.
Maybe everything will work out after all. Yes, that makes sense. Let's put down a deposit on World Series tickets right now.
Or not. Who knows?
The point is baseball is a long season. Over 162 games, every team will have winning streaks and losing streaks. It's not worth getting too worked up about either. There's always another game tomorrow. -- JW
