Shake Shack, a New York-based burger joint, will open its first Michigan location in downtown Detroit in 2017.

A company release says it will operate out of the First National Building, 660 Woodward Ave., a site owned by Dan Gilbert's Bedrock Detroit.

The news release says:

Originally built in 1922, the iconic First National Building has undergone tremendous restoration in recent years. In addition to Shake Shack, other retailers include Central Kitchen + Bar and Roasting Plant along with signature office tenants such as Honigman and Title Source.

Shake Shack Detroit will be located within walking distance to the Greektown Entertainment District, the JACK Detroit Casino Hotel Greektown, the Woodward Avenue shopping district, Detroit’s sports stadiums and the art-filled alley “The Belt.”

The company began with a food cart in Madison Square Park in New York in 2000.

Its meat doesn't have hormones or antibiotics.

The menu includes Angus burgers, chicken sandwiches made from all-natural, cage free chicken;  all beef  and chicken hot dogs; without antibiotics or hormones; a chicken dog, french fries and frozen custard.
