It's the End of the Line for Southfield Lathrup High School

Southfield Lathrup High School has a rich history. Over its 49 years, alumni have included Quicken Loans founder Dan Gilbert.

But as of Tuesday, that is it.

After students finish exams at midday, the school is closing for good, the victim of falling enrollment and worsening finances in the Southfield Public Schools, Shawn D. Lewis of The Detroit News reports.

In the Fall, Southfield-Lathrup and Southfield High will merge and become a new school, Southfield High School for the Arts and Technology, the News reports. The building will be occupied by the district’s University High School Academy, UPREP and MacArthur University Academy grades 2-8.
