A slew of production trucks, equipment and security guards occupied a slice of downtown Detroit on Friday for filming of the fifth in a series of blockbuster "Transformers" movies

Though curious pedestrians stopped to check out the action on Fort Street near Shelby, hoping to catch a glimpse of a movie star, security guards asked them to move along. The film stars Mark Wahlberg, Anthony Hopkins and Josh Duhamel and is being directed by Michael Bay.

One person associated with the filming of the movie, told Deadline Detroit in the afternoon that filming was going on throughout the day, mostly inside a building at the southeast corner of Fort and Shelby that was once a office supply business. At another location, blocks away, on Washington Blvd., a guard sat watch over a line of production trucks.  And an employee of one business along Griswold said they saw film crews on the street during the day.

The movie, “Transformers: The Last Knight,” is the fourth movie in the series to be filmed locally, according to The Detroit News.

The production, expected to spend about eight weeks in Detroit, is also shooting at the Packard Plant on the city's east side and reportedly will have scenes at MGM Grand Casino

Despite the egislature's decision to end film subsidies that have drawn major movies to the city, the movie will still receive about $21 million in tax incentives due to an agreement made before the decision to cut the program. It is anticipated that production will spend about $80 million in the state.

“It makes you proud of where you’re from,” Kate Lundy said to the Detroit News, adding that she has watched the other “Transformers” movies with her 13-year-old and 11-year-old sons.

Her husband, Mark, said filming in Detroit allows residents to experience some of Hollywood's glamor.

“It’s nice to understand what they go through and do while filming,” Mark Lundy said.

More than 400 Michigan residents will be part of the production's cast and crew and about 700 extras will be hired, The News says.
