The word "legend" is often used too freely when describing noted professionals.
Well, at the expense of sounding trite, Bill Bonds was a legend in local TV.
A native Detroiter, Bonds was an outspoken anchor at Channel 7 from the mid-1960s until the mid-1990s. In 1995, the station fired him months after a drunken driving arrest.
He hosted an 11 p.m. news interview show on Channel 2 in 1995, which was canceled with in a year, according to the Detroit Free Press. He went on to host a morning interview show on WXYT-AM, which didn't last long either.
He died at age 82 in 2014.
We came across this amusing video of Bonds taping a nightly newscast segment. He spares no four-letter words.
