Novi Mall Heist Suspect Surrenders, Bites Cop and Kicks Out Car Windows

August 23, 2016, 3:45 PM

A 26--year-old man wanted in the smash-and-grab jewelry store robbery at the Twelve Oaks Mall on Saturday turned himself in to Detroit police Monday night, then tried to escape, biting and scratching officers and kicking out two windows in a police car, the Detroit Free Press reports.

The craziness happened after the man surrendered at the 6th Detroit Police Precinct. When Novi Police arrived around 11 p.m. to transport him, he tried to flee on foot, said Novi police Sgt. Scott Baetens, according to Robert Allen of the Detroit Free Press.

After a brief foot chase, the officers were able to place him in a police car where he kicked out two of the car's rear windows, the Freep reports.

"He had some minor abrasions (scrapes) and a cut to his left arm, and our officers had minor abrasions -- one officer was bitten," Baetens said.

Police are still seeking two other suspects.
