Kilpatrick Pays $500 Restitution; Has a Long Way to Go

The Detroit Free Press points out that it will take ex-Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick 143 years to pay off his restitution to the city if he continues paying $500 a month. Kilpatrick just made his first $500 restitution payment on time -- barely. He just made the deadline. He still owes the city of Detroit $858,722.80, and he doesn't seem all that anxious to put a real dent in that figure. His restitution payments went up in March from $160 to $500. -- A.L.
