Ex-Rep. Todd Courser

As you surely recall, conservative state Rep. Todd Courser created a major distraction in Lansing last year when he carried on an extramarital affair with fellow Rep. Cindy Gamrat, then tried covering it up by having a staffer send out a ridiculous email saying he had been caught with a male hooker.

The idea was, that if he was hanging with a male prostitute, how could he possibly have carried out a heterosexual affair with a woman like Gamrat?  The genius of it all was lost by most.

After a lot of wasted money and resources, government investigations and hearings on their misconduct in office relating to the affair, Gamrat was expelled by her colleagues. Courser decided to resign right before he was about to get booted.

Courser and Gamrat were disgraced, and for that matter, were a disgrace.

But they didn't give up. They both wanted back the best job they ever had, and ran for office in a special primary last November.  Fortunately, good judgment prevailed and voters rejected their wishes.

After that, they both landed radio shows on 910 AM, which promotes itself as "Detroit's Largest Voice for African Americans." An odd fit to say the least.  I once listened briefly to Courser's show out of curiosity. I never listened again.

Now, Courser isn't through seeking more attention.

Melissa Nann Burke of The Detroit News reports that he filed a lawsuit this past week  in federal court in Grand Rapids against the state House of Representatives, Speaker Kevin Cotter, Attorney General Bill Schuette, State Police and The News, among others, alleging an elaborate conspiracy to discredit him and remove him from office.

He alleges they acted maliciously, recklessly, intentionally, unlawfully or through gross negligence “for their own financial and political goals,” the News reports.

Since the suit involves politicians in their official capacity,  it's bound to cost taxpayers some money.

Many decades ago, gangster Al Capone was regarded as a menace to society.

Courser is not nearly as smart as Capone, nor nearly as dangerous. But he's an annoyance to society and a burden to taxpayers.
